Paying for Nursing Home Care
Medicare pays for nursing home cists under certain conditions. The elder must receive the services from a Medicare certified skilled nursing home after a qualifying hospital stay - at least three days.
Medicaid will pay only for nursing home care provided in a facility certified by the government to provide service to Medicaid recipients. Eligibility varies by State.
Majority of all nursing home residents pay nursing home costs out of their personal savings and resources. After these savings and other resources are spent, they become eligible for Medicaid.
Managed Care Plans will pay for nursing home care if the nursing home has a contract with the plan.
